Acne Scars

Acne forms when the pores on the skin get clogged with too much oil and sea skin cells causing inflammation and damaged skin tissue which can result in permanent acne scarring. While the bumps and depression have no serious health effects, they can cause emotional distress and damage ones self-esteem.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure involving superficial and controlled puncturing of the skin by gliding a pen containing miniature needles. The micro-punctures creates micro-injuries that lead to minimal superficial bleeding and trigger a wound healing cascade with release of various growth factors which will result in new collagen formation and skin tightness. Microneedling works well for fine lines. In particular, it’s a very safe procedure in dark skin type due to low risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The down time is minimal for microrneedling.

Pre- and Post treatment care: sun protection and avoidance, avoid any type of exfoliation or chemical peels, and use of gentle skin moisturizer and facial wash to keep the skin calm and hydrated.

Subcision

Subcision is a procedure where a small bore needle is attached to a syringe and introduced parallel into the deep scars and is moved back and forth beneath the skin to release the fibrous attachments that are tethering the skin down and causing the skin indentations. The resulting micro-injury to the connective tissue stimulates the formation of new collagen which will fill the depressed scars. Subcision is recommended for moderate to severe scars and is generally used in combination with other resurfacing treatments.
