Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to removal unwanted hair. The laser emits light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in raw hair. The light energy is converted to heat which damages the hair follicle (roots) which inhibits or delays future hair growth. Multiple treatments (6-8) will be needed and maintenance treatments might be needed as well. The hair removal laser setting will be adjusted according to hair color, thickness and location of hair as well as skin color.

Pre- and post treatment: Limit plucking, waxing and electrolysis for 6 weeks prior to treatment because the laser targets the hair roots are are no longer present with the above procedures. Sun avoidance is strongly recommended for 6 weeks before and after treatment. Stop shaving 2-7 days before treatment to allow 1-2 mm hair stubbles to show.

Hair Restoration with microneedling and PRP

The micro-punctures from microneedling provoke the release of growth factors that promote hair growth by directly stimulating hair growth as a result of the small injury caused. The process is significantly enhanced by adding PRP which stands for platelet-rich plasma and contains concentrated platelets and growth factors. These substance help promote tissue repair, and collagen and cellular growth.

We will draw a small amount of your blood in our office, similar to what you could expect when having blood drawn for lab tests. The blood is then rapidly spun in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the rest of your blood. The PRP concentrate is then injected directly into your scalp with a microneedling device to stimulate renewed blood supply and proper nutrients to your deprived hair follicles. The microneedling pen allows for deeper penetration of PRP, amplifying the benefits of your hair restoration procedure.

Depending on the area treated, treatment can take 60 to 90 minutes. Several treatments will be needed for the best possible results. Since PRP is derived from your own blood cells, there is virtually no risk for an allergic reaction or other adverse effects.

In addition to the procedure, oral supplements and topical medications are recommended as adjuncts to obtain optimal results.
